Acid Bath was an American sludge metal band formed in 1991 in Houma, Louisiana, from the merger of two local groups, Dark Karnival and Golgotha. The core lineup included vocalist and guitarist Dax Riggs, guitarist Mike Sanchez, guitarist Sammy Pierre Duet, bassist Audie Pitre, and drummer Jimmy Kyle. The band blended doom metal with hardcore punk, death metal, gothic rock, blues, grunge, and Southern rock elements. They released their debut album When the Kite String Pops in 1994 on Rotten Records, followed by Paegan Terrorism Tactics in 1996, both earning underground acclaim. A compilation of demos appeared in 2005. Acid Bath disbanded in 1997 after bassist Audie Pitre died in a car accident. The band gained a reputation for intense, chaotic live shows, including one where fans destroyed a venue.
