Aimee Mann, born in Richmond, Virginia, attended Berklee College of Music in Boston before dropping out to play bass in punk band Young Snakes in 1982. In 1983, she co-founded the new wave band 'Til Tuesday, which released three albums, including the 1985 debut Voices Carry featuring the top-ten single 'Voices Carry,' winner of an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. The band disbanded in 1989, leading Mann to launch her solo career. Her solo albums Whatever (1993) and I'm with Stupid (1995) received critical praise but modest sales. Wider recognition came with her 1999 Magnolia soundtrack, earning Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for 'Save Me.' Independent via SuperEgo Records (co-founded 1999), she released Bachelor No. 2 (2000), Mental Illness (2017, Grammy for Best Folk Album), and Queens of the Summer Hotel (2021). Mann blends indie rock and folk in literate, melodic songwriting. Known live for intimate performances, often solo or in small clubs, she has toured with projects like duo The Both (2013) with Ted Leo.
