As I Lay Dying is an American metalcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2000 by vocalist Tim Lambesis. The group’s early lineup was completed in 2001 with drummer Jordan Mancino, and its sound combines aggressive hardcore-derived riffs, melodic guitar work, and harsh vocals. The band is known for albums such as Frail Words Collapse (2003), Shadows Are Security (2005), and An Ocean Between Us (2007), which helped establish its profile in the metalcore scene. As I Lay Dying has also been recognized for a tight, technically precise live performance style built around fast tempos, heavy breakdowns, and layered guitar arrangements.
