Band of Horses formed in 2004 in Seattle, Washington, by Ben Bridwell (vocals, guitar) following the breakup of his previous band, Carissa's Wierd. Initial members included bassist Chris Early, drummer Tim Meinig, and guitarist Mat Brooke, who departed in 2006 to focus on Grand Archives. The band signed with Sub Pop after opening for Iron & Wine and released their debut EP, Tour EP, in 2005, followed by the album Everything All the Time in 2006, featuring the track 'The Funeral'. Subsequent albums include Cease to Begin (2007), recorded after relocating to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Infinite Arms (2010), Grammy-nominated for Best Alternative Music Album; Mirage Rock (2012); Why Are You OK (2016); and Things Are Great (2022). Bridwell remains the sole constant member, with current lineup featuring Creighton Barrett (drums), Ryan Monroe (keyboards, guitar), Matt Gentling (bass), and Brett Nash (guitar). Band of Horses blends indie rock with Southern influences, characterized by Bridwell's high-register vocals and introspective lyrics. They are recognized for energetic live performances that emphasize their material's dynamics, building audience engagement through extended tours and festival appearances.
