Banda El Recodo - Upcoming SoCal Concerts

Banda El Recodo was formed in 1938 in El Recodo, near Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, by clarinetist Cruz Lizárraga. The ensemble adopted the banda sinaloense style, blending traditional wind instruments like clarinets, trombones, trumpets, tubas, and percussion including the tambora with influences from big band jazz, rancheras, cumbias, waltzes, and other rhythms. It expanded to a 16- to 18-piece group and became the first banda to record an album in 1951 with RCA Victor, releasing tracks such as 'El Callejero' and 'Mi Adoración.' The band toured extensively across Mexico and the United States starting in the 1950s, accompanying artists like Juan Gabriel and José Alfredo Jiménez. Cruz Lizárraga led until his death in 1995, after which his sons Germán and Alfonso took over. Notable achievements include over 178 recordings and a Latin Grammy win for 'Lo Mejor de Mi Vida' in 2000. Live, Banda El Recodo is recognized for energetic performances suited to parties and festivals, featuring vocalists and brass-driven arrangements.
