The Black Jacket Symphony formed in 2009 in Birmingham, Alabama, founded by J. Willoughby, a Mountain Brook native influenced by The Beatles and classic rock. Willoughby, initially a musician in Nashville with bands like The Newboys and The Willbillies, assembled the group to perform classic rock albums in their entirety, note-for-note, drawing from his extensive knowledge of the genre. The ensemble specializes in precise recreations of albums by artists such as The Beatles (Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s), Pink Floyd (The Dark Side of the Moon), Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac (Rumours), and over 40 others, without impersonations. Lineups vary from 55 to 75 musicians per show, tailored to each album's requirements, with members sourced nationwide. Live performances feature a first set devoted to the full album, followed by greatest hits from the artist, emphasizing forensic accuracy through extensive rehearsal. The group has toured extensively across the US for over a decade.
