Cheap Trick is an American rock band formed in Rockford, Illinois, in 1973 by guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, vocalist Robin Zander, and drummer Bun E. Carlos. The group originated from earlier bands like Fuse, adopting their name after a Slade concert. Their style blends power pop, 1960s guitar pop, and 1970s hard rock, drawing from influences such as The Beatles and punk energy. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1977, followed by In Color, which achieved success in Japan. Their live album At Budokan (1978) became multi-platinum, featuring hits like 'I Want You to Want Me.' Other key releases include Dream Police (1979) and The Flame (1988), which topped charts. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Cheap Trick maintains a reputation for energetic live performances, sustaining a following through consistent touring over five decades.
