Cheekface is an indie rock trio formed in Los Angeles in 2017, consisting of guitarist and vocalist Greg Katz, bassist and vocalist Amanda Tannen (formerly of stellastarr), and drummer Mark “Echo” Edwards. The band emerged from Katz and Tannen's collaboration to channel anxiety and bleak humor into songs, starting with demos shared with Edwards and an initial show at the Cinema Bar in Culver City in December 2017. Their musical style features talk-singing influenced by Jonathan Richman, Stephen Malkmus, Lou Reed, Wire, and The Fall, blending post-punk, power pop, and pub rock elements. Key releases include the 2019 debut album Therapy Island, 2021's Emphatically No. (Bandcamp's top-selling alternative album that year), 2022's Too Much to Ask (reaching #2 on non-commercial radio charts), and later albums like Middle Spoon and It’s Sorted. Cheekface is known for community-oriented live shows featuring singalongs, audience participation such as climbing on stage, and a dedicated fanbase called 'Cheek Freaks,' fostering a sense of camaraderie across generations.
