Choir Boy is an American synth-pop and dream-pop band based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The project was formed by singer and multi-instrumentalist Adam Klopp, whose moniker came from an insult used in his teenage punk- and cover-band years in Cleveland, Ohio. After moving to Utah, Klopp became part of the local underground music scene and began using Choir Boy as the name for the project. The band’s lineup has included Chaz Costello on bass, Jeff Kleinman on keyboards and saxophone, and Michael Paulsen on guitar. Choir Boy’s recorded work blends 1980s pop and new wave influences with indie and darkwave elements, and its debut album, Passive with Desire, was released in 2016. The group has also issued Gathering Swans and later singles, and is known for live performances built around Klopp’s vocal style and layered arrangements.
