Cold Cave is the solo project of Wesley Eisold, founded in 2007 while based in Philadelphia. The project combines darkwave, post-punk, and electronic elements, drawing comparisons to Joy Division and New Order. Eisold previously performed as vocalist for hardcore punk bands American Nightmare and Some Girls. Cold Cave's debut album, Love Comes Close (2009), introduced a minimalistic production style with introspective lyrics and helped revive interest in the dark wave genre. The project has evolved into a collaborative effort, with Amy Lee joining as a core creative partner in recent years. Cold Cave performs with a full live band that has included members from AFI, Samhain, and The Blood Brothers. The group is known for crafting melodic synth-driven compositions paired with rhythmic beats, exploring themes of isolation, depression, and human contradiction. Eisold has maintained creative control over songwriting and production throughout the project's development.
