Counting Crows is an American rock band formed in 1991 in Berkeley, California, by singer Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson. The group began as an acoustic duo in the San Francisco Bay Area before expanding into a full band and signing with Geffen Records. Their sound blends rock with folk and Americana influences, characterized by melodic songwriting and Duritz’s introspective lyrics. The band’s debut album, August and Everything After (1993), produced by T Bone Burnett, included the hit single “Mr. Jones” and sold several million copies worldwide. Subsequent albums such as Recovering the Satellites (1996), This Desert Life (1999), and Hard Candy (2002) further established their presence on the adult alternative and rock charts. Counting Crows are known for their extended live performances, which often feature reworked arrangements and extended jams, and have sold more than 20 million albums globally.
