Covet is an instrumental rock trio formed in 2014 in San Jose, California, by guitarist Yvette Young. Young, with a background in classical piano and violin, developed a distinctive two-handed tapping guitar style influenced by math rock, post-rock, and progressive elements. The band initially featured bassist David Adamiak and various drummers, later including Forrest Rice and current members Brandon Dove on bass and Jessica Burdeaux on drums. Covet released the Currents EP in 2015, followed by the Effloresce album in 2018 and Technicolor in 2020, which includes a re-recorded version of the single Ares. Their music features complex structures, intricate rhythms, and emotive, atmospheric soundscapes blending math rock with shoegaze and Midwest emo influences. The band has toured extensively, supporting acts like Polyphia, CHON, Tera Melos, and Tiny Moving Parts, and is recognized for dynamic live performances that highlight Young's fluid guitar work and the group's tight interplay.
