Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978 by guitarist East Bay Ray, vocalist Jello Biafra, bassist Klaus Flouride, and drummer Ted, with a second guitarist known as 6025 in the early lineup. The band became associated with hardcore punk and with politically charged, satirical lyrics that targeted U.S. politics, consumer culture, and censorship. Their early recordings included "California Über Alles" and "Holiday in Cambodia," and their debut album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, appeared in 1980. Dead Kennedys broke up in 1986, later re-formed in 2001 without Biafra, and have continued to perform live under the band name.
