Dexter and The Moonrocks formed in Abilene, Texas, when James Tuffs (vocals and rhythm guitar, former fry cook), Ryan Anderson (lead guitar), Ty Anderson (bass, former oil field operator), and Fox (drums, former kids' baseball coach and concrete surface decorator) began playing music together. Drawing from country roots and 1990s grunge influences like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, they developed a style known as Western Space Grunge, blending Southern alternative, red-dirt country, and alternative rock. The band released their debut single 'Couch' in August 2021, followed by a self-titled EP with tracks including 'Where I Steer' and 'Behave.' In July 2024, they issued the EP Western Space Grunge via Severance Records, featuring 'Sad in Carolina,' which reached No. 1 on U.S. Alternative radio for seven weeks. They built a following through social media and sold-out shows, progressing from local bars to larger venues. Live, Dexter and The Moonrocks deliver raw energy with electrified performances, as demonstrated in their live version of 'Couch,' maintaining their genre-blending sound across festival stages.
