DJ Quik - Upcoming SoCal Concerts

David Marvin Blake, known as DJ Quik, was born on January 18, 1970, in Compton, California. He began his music career in the late 1980s by selling homemade mixtapes such as The Red Tape (1987) and DJing at local shows. Signing with Profile Records in 1990, he released his debut album Quik Is the Name (1991), which achieved platinum certification and featured Top 20 R&B/hip-hop singles 'Tonite' and 'Born and Raised in Compton'. Quik's style centers on G-funk production influenced by funk and soul artists like Roger Troutman and George Clinton, incorporating talkbox effects. He followed with gold-certified albums Way 2 Fonky (1992), Safe + Sound (1995), and Rhythm-al-ism (1998), and produced for artists including Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Truth Hurts' 'Addictive' (2002). He also discovered and produced Suga Free's Street Gospel (1997). DJ Quik performs as a rapper and DJ, drawing on his West Coast hip-hop roots with funk-inspired beats during live sets.
