Dry Cleaning is an English post-punk band formed in South London in 2017 by vocalist Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, bassist Lewis Maynard, and drummer Nick Buxton. The members, who met through art college connections including Camberwell, Goldsmiths, and the Royal College of Art, began with instrumentals after a karaoke gathering before Shaw joined as singer. Their sound features Shaw's spoken-word vocals over tense, angular instrumentation drawing from post-punk, no wave, and stoner rock influences. The band debuted with the single 'Magic of Meghan' in 2019, followed by EPs Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks that year. Their first full-length album, New Long Leg, arrived in 2021 via 4AD, reaching number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and topping the UK Independent Albums Chart. Stumpwork followed in 2022, with its packaging earning a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package in 2023. Their third album, Secret Love, produced by Cate Le Bon, was announced for release in early 2026. Dry Cleaning performs in progressively larger venues, transitioning quickly from small rooms, with Shaw's deadpan delivery complementing the band's taut live energy.
