The Eagles formed in Los Angeles in 1971 as a country rock band, initially performing as Linda Ronstadt's backup group with founding members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. Signed to Asylum Records by David Geffen, they released their self-titled debut album in 1972, featuring the single 'Take It Easy,' which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent albums like Desperado (1973), On the Border (1974), One of These Nights (1975), and Hotel California (1976) produced hits including 'Hotel California,' 'Lyin' Eyes,' and 'Take It to the Limit.' Lineup changes included Don Felder joining in 1974, Leadon replaced by Joe Walsh in 1975, and Meisner by Timothy B. Schmit in 1977. The band disbanded in 1980 amid tensions but reunited in 1994, releasing the live album Hell Freezes Over, which topped the Billboard 200. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Known for precise harmonies and extended live performances of songs like 'Hotel California.'
