Eagles of Death Metal is an American rock band formed in Palm Desert, California, in 1998 by Jesse Hughes (vocals, guitar) and Josh Homme (drums). The duo debuted on Homme's The Desert Sessions Volumes 3 & 4 that year, with Hughes and Homme as the only permanent members; Homme rarely performs live due to other commitments. Their music blends garage rock with bluesy elements and playful energy, despite the ironic name derived from a jest about the Scorpions. The band released their debut album Peace, Love, Death Metal in 2004, followed by Death by Sexy (2006), Heart On (2009), and Zipper Down (2015), which charted at No. 59 on the Billboard 200. Songs from their albums appeared in commercials, films like Thank You for Smoking, and games such as Guitar Hero 5. They are known for energetic live shows featuring Hughes' animated stage presence.
