Flyleaf is an American rock band formed in 2002 in Belton or Temple, Texas. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Lacey Sturm (also known as Lacey Mosley), guitarists Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann, bassist Pat Seals, and drummer James Culpepper. Their music blends alternative metal, post-grunge, nu-metal, and hard rock elements with heavy guitar riffs, melodic hooks, and lyrics addressing emotional and spiritual themes. The band released their self-titled debut EP in 2005, followed by their full-length album Flyleaf that same year, which achieved platinum status by selling over one million copies. Their second album, Memento Mori, was released in 2009 and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. They have charted on mainstream rock, Christian pop, and Christian rock charts. Lacey Sturm left in 2012, with Kristen May joining as vocalist for albums like Between the Stars (2014). Flyleaf gained recognition for intense live performances, touring with acts such as Skillet, Breaking Benjamin, and Staind, and holding fan engagement events like VIP listening parties.
