Gia Margaret is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter and producer known for her self-described 'sleep-rock' style, blending folk, shoegaze, ambient electronics, and slowcore elements. She grew up in the city, studying classical piano composition before dropping out of music school around 13-14 years ago to pursue songwriting over orchestral work. Her self-produced debut album, There’s Always Glimmer, released in 2018 on Orindal Records, featured lyrical explorations of anxiety and hope, earning international critics' recognition. Following a 2019 vocal injury that sidelined her singing and tour dates, she released the mostly instrumental Mia Gargaret (2019, Orindal), adapting with synth, piano, and field recordings. She later issued Romantic Piano on Jagjaguwar, emphasizing solo piano compositions evoking solitude and nature. Live performances typically feature her solo with sparkly electric guitar, ambient soundscapes, intimate vocals, and stage banter.
