Godsmack is an American rock band formed in 1995 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, by Sully Erna (vocals/rhythm guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass), and initial members Lee Richards (guitar) and Tommy Stewart (drums). The band renamed from The Scam after one demo and gained local popularity in the Boston area with songs like 'Keep Away' and 'Whatever'. Tony Rombola joined on guitar in 1996, and they self-released their debut album All Wound Up... in 1997, later reissued as Godsmack (1998) after signing with Republic/Universal Records. Shannon Larkin became the permanent drummer in 2002. The band has released eight studio albums, including Awake (2000), Faceless (2003), IV (2006), 1000hp (2014), When Legends Rise (2018), and Lighting Up the Sky (2023). Their style blends post-grunge, alternative metal, and hard rock. Godsmack has toured extensively, including Ozzfest, Woodstock '99, and arena headline tours. In 2025, Larkin and Rombola departed, with the band continuing with touring musicians. They are known for high-energy live performances featuring Erna's intense vocals and the band's tight instrumentation during club shows and major festivals.
