Goose formed in 2014 in Wilton, Connecticut, by Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Peter Anspach (vocals, keys, guitar), Trevor Weekz (bass), and Ben Atkind (drums). The members, friends from the area, evolved from earlier projects like Vasudo, blending rock, funk, and electronic influences into an improvisational style influenced by jam bands such as Phish and the Grateful Dead. Their debut album, Moon Cabin (2016), featured tracks like “Arcadia” and “Indian River,” highlighting structured songs and extended jams. The band gained prominence through extensive touring, performing at venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Radio City Music Hall, and Madison Square Garden. Goose is recognized for its live performances, characterized by genre-blending improvisation, tight musicianship, and a dedicated following built via platforms like YouTube and nugs.net.
