Gorillaz is a British virtual band formed in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The project features four fictional animated characters: 2-D on vocals and keyboards, Murdoc Niccals on bass, Noodle on guitar, and Russel Hobbs on drums. Albarn provides the primary musical contributions, often collaborating with guest artists across genres including hip-hop, electronic, pop, and rock. The band's debut self-titled album arrived in 2001, featuring the hit 'Clint Eastwood,' followed by Demon Days (2005), Plastic Beach (2010), Humanz (2017), and Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (2020). Their music integrates diverse styles through animations, comics, and videos that expand the band's lore. Gorillaz performs live with a rotating group of human musicians behind screens projecting the animated characters, as seen in tours supporting their albums.
