Inner Wave formed in Inglewood, California, in 2011 as childhood friends from middle school, including founding members Pablo Sotelo (vocals/guitar), Jean Pierre Narvaez (bass/vocals), and Elijah Trujillo (guitar/keys). The band, now a quintet with Luis Portillo (drums) since 2017 and Jose Cruz (keys) since 2020, draws from influences like Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz, evolving into psych-pop and synthwave with lo-fi elements. They released their debut full-length III in 2013, featuring the single 'American Spirits,' followed by Sun Transmissions (2014) and the breakout Underwater Pipe Dreams (2017). Their fourth album, Apoptosis, emerged post-pandemic, reflecting lineup changes and a hands-on studio approach. Inner Wave built a regional following through self-released EPs, singles, and consistent live performances at house shows and venues. The band maintains a strong presence in LA's Latin indie rock scene, alongside acts like Chicano Batman, known for their energetic live shows and DIY ethos.
