Interpol is an American rock band formed in 1997 in New York City, initially by Daniel Kessler, Carlos Dengler, and Paul Banks, all students at New York University, with drummer Greg Drudy later replaced by Sam Fogarino. The band emerged as a central figure in the post-punk revival of the 2000s, characterized by angular guitar work, introspective lyrics, and atmospheric production. Their 2002 debut album Turn on the Bright Lights received critical acclaim, ranking first on Pitchfork Media's Top 50 Albums of 2002 and tenth on NME's year-end list. Subsequent releases Antics (2004) and Our Love to Admire (2007) solidified their commercial and critical standing. Following Carlos Dengler's departure in 2010, the band continued as a trio. Interpol remains an active recording and touring act, maintaining a presence in contemporary rock music.
