Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1948, Jeffrey Osborne began his career as a drummer and vocalist. He joined the funk and soul band Love Men Ltd. in 1969 or 1970, which relocated to Los Angeles, added his brother Billy on keyboards, and renamed itself L.T.D. (Love, Togetherness & Devotion). Signing with A&M Records in 1974, L.T.D. achieved success with hits like the 1976 Billboard R&B #1 'Love Ballad,' during which Osborne transitioned to lead vocalist. The band released multiple gold and platinum albums before Osborne left in 1980 for a solo career. Osborne's debut solo album, Jeffrey Osborne (1982), included hits 'On the Wings of Love' and 'I Really Don't Need No Light.' He earned four Grammy nominations and five gold or platinum albums, such as Stay with Me Tonight (1983) and Only Human (1990), with additional releases like That's for Sure (2000), Music Is Life (2003), and Worth It All (2018). His style blends R&B, soul, and funk. Osborne continues to tour worldwide, performing his catalog of R&B hits from both L.T.D. and his solo work.
