Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band formed in 1999 in Westfield, Massachusetts, by bassist Mike D'Antonio and guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz following the disbandment of their prior bands Overcast and Aftershock. They recruited guitarist Joel Stroetzel and vocalist Jesse Leach, releasing a self-titled debut album in 2000 via Ferret Music and later signing with Roadrunner Records. Leach departed in 2002 due to personal reasons and was replaced by Howard Jones, who fronted the band through albums like Alive or Just Breathing (2002), The End of Heartache (2004), and As Daylight Dies (2006). Leach rejoined in 2012, with the current lineup also including drummer Justin Foley since 2003. The band has released nine studio albums, including Incarnate (2016) and This Consequence (2025). They are known for blending heavy riffs with melodic elements and clean/harsh vocals. Live, Killswitch Engage performs high-energy shows, having appeared at events like New England Metal & Hardcore Fest and Ozzfest.
