Mikaela Mullaney Straus, known as King Princess, is an American musician from Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up in her father's recording studio, Mission Sound. She began writing and producing music as a teenager, studied briefly at USC's Thornton School of Music, and debuted in 2018 with the single '1950' under Zelig Records, followed by the EP Make My Bed and debut album Cheap Queen in 2019. Her music blends indie pop, funk-pop, and elements of disco, often exploring queer relationships and LGBTQ+ themes with a warm vocal tone backed by guitar, drums, bass, and piano. Influences include Led Zeppelin, T. Rex, Cher, and The Beatles. She received the Pop Breakout Artist of the Year award from Vivid Seats in 2018. King Princess is recognized for her self-produced work and authentic voice in queer pop, drawing from personal experiences in songwriting.
