Kolohe Kai is the musical project of singer-songwriter Roman De Peralta from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. The band formed around 2007 when De Peralta and original members met in a high school Polynesian music class. They won the statewide 'Brown Bags to Stardom' competition with 'Kiss That I Never Had,' leading to a deal with Go Aloha Entertainment and their debut album This Is the Life in 2009, featuring singles 'Ehu Girl' and 'Cool Down.' Kolohe Kai blends island reggae with pop and Hawaiian influences, drawing from artists like Ekolu, Fiji, and Boyz II Men. Subsequent releases include Love Town (2011), Paradise (2014), and Summer 2 Winter (2019), a visual album with tracks like 'Higher.' The band has toured internationally, including the Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia. Live, Kolohe Kai delivers enthusiastic performances with an eight-piece lineup including guitar, saxophone, ukulele, and vocals, maintaining a youthful, ocean-themed energy reflective of their rascal-in-the-water persona.
