Leonid & Friends is a Moscow-based tribute band formed in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Leonid Vorobyev. The project began when Vorobyev recorded a cover of Chicago's 'Brand New Love Affair' as a retirement gift, transcribing the arrangement by ear and posting it on YouTube, which gained widespread attention. Most members are from Russia, with others from Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. They specialize in precise recreations of Chicago's music, including complex horn sections, rhythm, and vocal harmonies, and have expanded to covers of Earth, Wind & Fire and The Carpenters. The band has released albums featuring note-for-note renditions of Chicago tracks and tours the United States regularly in spring and fall. Notable events include performing with Chicago's original drummer Danny Seraphine in 2019 and meeting founding member Robert Lamm. Their live shows emphasize fidelity to original studio recordings.
