Mac DeMarco, born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV on April 30, 1990, in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada, is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Raised partly in Edmonton, Alberta, he played in high school bands like the Meat Cleavers and Makeout Videotape before moving to Vancouver, then Montreal in 2011 to launch a solo career. He signed with Captured Tracks and released his debut mini-LP Rock and Roll Night Club in 2012, followed by the full-length 2 that year. DeMarco's music features a blend of indie rock, soft rock, jangly guitars, and lo-fi production, often exploring love, self-reflection, and daily life. Key albums include Salad Days (2014), This Old Dog (2017), Here Comes the Cowboy (2019), and the instrumental Five Easy Hot Dogs (2023). He earned a Canadian Folk Music Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2012. His live shows are noted for engaging, unpredictable performances with humor and crowd interaction.
