Marilyn Manson is an American rock band formed in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, by vocalist Brian Warner (stage name Marilyn Manson) and guitarist Scott Putesky (Daisy Berkowitz), initially as Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. The band shortened its name in 1992 and signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records in 1993, releasing its debut album Portrait of an American Family in 1994, followed by Smells Like Children (1995) and Antichrist Superstar (1996). The band's music blends industrial rock, glam rock, and alternative metal, characterized by provocative lyrics challenging societal norms. Notable later albums include Mechanical Animals (1998) and Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) (2000). Lineups changed frequently, with Marilyn Manson as the sole original member. Marilyn Manson gained a cult following in South Florida through theatrical, visually shocking live performances featuring elaborate costumes and stage antics.
