Matchbox Twenty is an American rock band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group originally included Rob Thomas, Brian Yale, and Paul Doucette, with Kyle Cook and Adam Gaynor joining before the release of its early records. The band first performed under the name Matchbox 20 before later adopting the spelling Matchbox Twenty. Their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), established their commercial profile and included the singles “3AM,” “Push,” and “Real World.” Matchbox Twenty’s recordings are commonly associated with alternative rock and post-grunge, with later material including songs such as “Bent,” “If You’re Gone,” “Unwell,” and “How Far We’ve Come.” The band continues to tour and mark major career anniversaries with live dates.
