Megadeth is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine after his departure from Metallica. The group became associated with thrash metal and is known for fast tempos, technical guitar work, complex arrangements, and lyrics that often address war, politics, religion, and death. Megadeth was part of the thrash metal scene that emerged in the 1980s and is commonly grouped with Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax as part of the style’s core bands. Over the years, the lineup has changed frequently, while Mustaine has remained the band’s central member. The band has released multiple studio albums, including Rust in Peace, Peace Sells... But Who’s Buying?, Countdown to Extinction, and Dystopia.
