Micky Dolenz is an American musician and actor best known as the drummer and lead vocalist for the Monkees, the pop rock band formed for a 1965 television series. Selected from 400 applicants through an open casting call, Dolenz joined Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork to create the group. The Monkees achieved substantial commercial success, selling over 65 million units worldwide and producing three number-one singles, including "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer," both featuring Dolenz's lead vocals. The band's first four albums all reached number-one on the charts. Following the group's initial breakup, Dolenz pursued a solo career and reunited with former bandmates beginning in 1986, participating in successful reunion tours that sparked renewed interest in the Monkees' catalog.
