Midland is a country music trio formed in 2014 in Dripping Springs, Texas, by Mark Wystrach (lead vocals/guitar), Jess Carson (lead guitar/vocals), and Cameron Duddy (bass/vocals). The members, who had previously played in bands around Los Angeles, reunited at Duddy's wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in 2013 and recorded their first sessions at Sonic Ranch studios in Tornillo, Texas. They draw from neotraditional country influences including Dwight Yoakam, the Eagles, and 1970s-1980s honky-tonk styles. The band signed with Big Machine Records in 2016, releasing debut album On the Rocks featuring the single 'Drinkin' Problem,' which earned Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Subsequent albums include Let It Roll (No. 1 on Billboard Top Country Album Sales), The Last Resort: Greetings From, and The Sonic Ranch (2021), with seven Billboard country chart singles such as 'Burn Out,' 'Mr. Lonely,' and 'Sunrise Tells the Story.' They received ACM Awards for New Vocal Group of the Year in 2018. Midland performs with thick harmonies, steel guitar, and a retro sound, progressing from Texas clubs to headlining shows and their own cruise in 2024.
