No Doubt formed in Anaheim, California, in 1986 as a ska band influenced by groups like Madness. Initially featuring John Spence on lead vocals, Gwen Stefani on backing vocals, and her brother Eric Stefani on keyboards, the lineup expanded with bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young after Spence's suicide in 1987, with Gwen assuming lead vocals. Eric Stefani departed in 1994 to work as an animator. The band's breakthrough arrived with their 1995 album Tragic Kingdom, which topped the Billboard charts and included hits 'Just a Girl,' 'Spiderwebs,' and 'Don't Speak.' Subsequent releases Return of Saturn (2000) and Rock Steady (2001) incorporated pop, new wave, reggae, and dancehall elements; the latter yielded Grammy-winning tracks 'Hey Baby' and 'Underneath It All.' No Doubt received multiple Grammy Awards during their career. Known for energetic live performances blending ska-punk roots with dynamic stage presence, the band toured extensively, often with horn section members Gabrial McNair and Stephen Bradley.
