Paul Anka, born July 30, 1941, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, began performing professionally at age 11 and secured a recording contract with ABC-Paramount in 1957 after presenting his original song 'Diana,' which sold over 10 million copies and topped charts worldwide. Hits like 'Lonely Boy' (1959), 'Put Your Head on My Shoulder' (1959), and 'Puppy Love' (1960) established him as a teen idol in the pop genre. Anka wrote songs for artists including Frank Sinatra ('My Way'), Tom Jones ('She's a Lady'), and others, and composed themes for The Tonight Show and The Longest Day. In 1974, '(You're) Having My Baby' with Odia Coates reached No. 1. Later releases include Rock Swings (2005) and Classic Songs: My Way (2007), featuring covers of rock hits. He has released over 120 albums and earned induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2008). Anka performed on The Ed Sullivan Show 15 times, evolving from teen pop to mature standards, and was among the first pop singers at Las Vegas casinos in the late 1950s.
