Poison the Well is an American metalcore band formed in Miami, Florida in 1997, initially under the name An Acre Lost before adopting their current name in 1998. The band emerged from the underground hardcore scene with their debut EP Distance Only Makes The Heart Grow Fonder, which caught the attention of Trustkill Records. Their 1999 full-length album The Opposite of December established them as a significant force in metalcore, blending metallic riffs with punk structures and multi-layered vocals. The band's core lineup has consisted of guitarist Ryan Primack, drummer Chris Hornbrook, and vocalist Jeffrey Moreira, who appeared on all five studio albums. After disbanding in 2010, Poison the Well reunited in 2022 and have continued performing, returning to their post-hardcore roots after experimental detours in their later discography. The band is recognized for energized live performances and their influence on the metalcore genre's development.
