Porter Robinson is an American DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992. He began producing music as a teenager and became known in electronic music for releases that span electro house, dubstep, future bass, and synth-pop. His early work included the EP Spitfire and the single Language, and his debut album Worlds was released in 2014. Robinson has also performed and released music under the alias Virtual Self, which is associated with a more club-oriented electronic style. His live shows are built around DJ and performance setups that mix original production with vocals and visual presentation, and he has toured internationally as an electronic music act. His catalog is often discussed in relation to melodic and emotionally focused electronic music rather than techno specifically.
