Prayers is a Mexican-American electronic duo formed in 2013 by Rafael Reyes and Dave Parley. The project is based in San Diego, California, and is associated with a style the group describes as “cholo goth,” blending darkwave, post-punk, synth-pop, and street-influenced themes. Reyes performs under the name Leafar Seyer, and the duo has been identified in coverage as an electronic rock act with roots in goth and industrial sounds. The group first drew attention with releases including SD Killwave and Gothic Summer, followed by Young Gods in 2014, which expanded their profile beyond the regional scene. Prayers has also toured as a live act, including opening slots for larger rock acts, and their performances are typically centered on driving synths, heavy beats, and Reyes’s vocal delivery. Their work often references urban life, identity, and conflict.
