Raq Baby, born Robert Johnson (also referred to as Brian Bedford), grew up on Chicago's South Side before relocating with his family to Atlanta at age 10. Influenced by Chicago drill artists like Chief Keef and Lil Durk, as well as Atlanta's melodic trap, he began rapping seriously around 2021 following his grandmother's death in 2019, initially under the name 952 Raq. By 2023, adopting his current moniker, he gained traction with singles like 'Soldier Love,' which samples Robin S's 'Show Me Love' and has exceeded 20 million streams. His style fuses gritty Chicago drill lyrics with sample-heavy Atlanta plugg beats, evident in projects such as the 2024 mixtape Spill Season, Abstruse, and the EP More Spill. Tracks like 'Day By Day,' 'My Bitch,' and 'Automatic Part Two' have amassed millions of views on YouTube and TikTok. He signed with Alamo Records and tours major cities, delivering authentic street narratives rooted in personal trauma and ascent. Raq Baby maintains a perfectionist approach in the studio, known for vivid imagery and eclectic sampling across his live performances and recordings.
