Royel Otis is an Australian guitar-pop duo formed in 2019 in Sydney by Royel Maddell (guitar) and Otis Pavlovic (vocals), who met through mutual friends and began exchanging demos. The pair released their debut EP Campus in 2021, followed by Bar & Grill in 2022 and Sofa Kings in 2023, which peaked at number 43 on the ARIA Charts. Their debut studio album Pratts & Pain, produced with Dan Carey, reached number two on the ARIA charts in February 2024. The duo's sound draws from indie pop and rock, emphasizing spontaneous guitar-driven energy and collaborative songwriting often developed in casual settings like pubs. In 2024, they won Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year at the AIR Awards and earned nominations for the APRA Awards and Rolling Stone Australia Awards. Live, Royel Otis performs as a four-piece with additional members Jules and Tim, supporting headline tours across the UK, Europe, US, and Australia.
