The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus was formed in 1985 when forty-five men gathered for their first weekly rehearsal following a benefit concert by the Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus at Balboa Park's Casa del Prado theater. The group initially performed as the San Diego Men's Chorus before incorporating as the Gay Men's Chorus of San Diego in January 1993. In 2010, the two entities merged to form the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus. The chorus has performed at major venues including the White House, the Super Bowl, and Lincoln Center, with membership growing to over 300 singers, making it one of the largest gay choruses in the world. The ensemble performs classical and contemporary choral repertoire and maintains a mission to create positive musical experiences while building community support and advocating for social change.
