Silverstein is a post-hardcore band formed in 2000 in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, named after children's author Shel Silverstein. The band released their debut EP Summer's Stellar Gaze independently that year, followed by lineup changes including the addition of bassist Billy Hamilton and guitarist Neil Boshart. They signed with Victory Records in 2002 and issued their first full-length album, When Broken Is Easily Fixed, in 2003. Their sound incorporates post-hardcore with punk rock and emo elements, evident in albums like Discovering the Waterfront (2005), which peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Juno Award nomination, and later releases such as A Shipwreck in the Sand (2009) and Rescue (2011). The current lineup features vocalist Shane Told, rhythm guitarist Josh Bradford, bassist Billy Hamilton, drummer Paul Koehler, and lead guitarist Paul Marc Rousseau. Silverstein is known for energetic live performances, often featuring crowdsurfing, elaborate stage visuals, and setlists spanning their discography, as seen in their 2025 25th-anniversary 'Emo Time Machine' shows.
