Originating from the Silver Lake music scene, the band consists of Brian Aubert on guitar and lead vocals, Nikki Monninger on bass and backing vocals, Christopher Guanlao on drums, and Joe Lester on keyboards and samples. They began performing at local clubs like Silverlake Lounge and Spaceland, initially under the name A Couple of Couples before adopting their current name from a nearby liquor store. The band released their debut EP Pikul in 2005 via Dangerbird Records, followed by full-length albums including Carnavas (2006), which featured singles 'Lazy Eye' and 'Well Thought Out Twinkles' that charted on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks, Swoon (2009), Neck of the Woods (2012), Better Nature (2015), and later works. They earned a Grammy nomination and built a following through extensive touring, supporting acts like Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails. Silversun Pickups are known for their live performances, characterized by extended songs and an atmospheric sound blending alternative rock with influences from 1990s bands like Smashing Pumpkins.
