Simple Minds are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977 by singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill. The group took its name from a lyric in David Bowie’s “The Jean Genie” and developed from the post-punk and new wave scene into a band that incorporated synths and a broader pop-rock sound. The band’s early lineup included keyboardist Mick MacNeil, bassist Derek Forbes, and drummer Brian McGee, and their recordings helped define their 1980s output. They are best known for singles such as “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and for a catalog that brought them international success across the UK, Europe, and the US. In live performance, Simple Minds have typically been centered on Kerr and Burchill, with a rotating supporting lineup on keyboards, bass, and drums.
