Stryper - Upcoming SoCal Concerts

Stryper formed in 1983 in Orange County, California, initially as Roxx Regime by brothers Michael Sweet (vocals, guitar) and Robert Sweet (drums), later joined by guitarist Oz Fox and bassist Tim Gaines. The band changed its name to Stryper, derived from Isaiah 53:5, and adopted a Christian message, becoming the first Christian rock act to gain mainstream recognition. They signed with Enigma Records, releasing their debut EP The Yellow and Black Attack in 1984 and full-length Soldiers Under Command in 1985. Their 1986 album To Hell with the Devil achieved platinum status, selling over one million copies and spawning hit singles, marking their commercial peak in the glam metal scene. Subsequent releases like In God We Trust and Against the Law earned gold certification. After a hiatus following Michael Sweet's 1992 departure, the band reunited in 2003 and has continued recording and touring. Known for high-energy live performances on the Los Angeles metal club circuit, including venues like The Whisky a Go-Go, Stryper combined heavy riffs, spandex attire in yellow and black, and Bible-throwing to audiences.
