Surfer Girl is the project of Carter Reeves, former frontman of the hip-hop/pop duo Aer, formed in Wayland, Massachusetts. After AER disbanded in 2016, Reeves launched Surfer Girl in 2020 amid the global pandemic, drawing from his time in Maine to create a debut EP as escapism. The project's sound fuses indie-pop, reggae, surf-rock, and hip-hop elements, influenced by Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Bob Marley, and 1950s/60s roots reggae. In April 2025, Surfer Girl released the album Sunset via Ineffable Records, featuring collaborations with Bryce Vine, Collie Buddz, Jah Lil, and Emily Brimlow. The band has performed at festivals including Sea.Hear.Now, SunFest, Cali Vibes, Reggae Rise Up, and Vans Warped Tour in 2025. Live shows emphasize Reeves's stage presence, blending musical skill with coastal beach culture.
