Sweet and Tender Hooligans - Upcoming SoCal Concerts

Sweet and Tender Hooligans formed in Los Angeles in 1992, initially performing Smiths and Morrissey covers following the band's 1987 breakup. Fronted by Jose Maldonado, the group shifted focus to tribute performances after strong response at a local Morrissey convention that year. Members include David Collett on lead guitar, Danny Garcia on drums, Joe Escalante on bass, and Art Barrios on rhythm guitar and backing vocals. The band specializes in replicating the sound and style of the Smiths and Morrissey, earning recognition as the Best Cover Band in Los Angeles by LA Weekly. They have performed across the US, Mexico, and UK, including sold-out shows and BBC attention. Named by Morrissey, who once joked onstage as the group, they maintain era-accurate aesthetics. Live, Maldonado channels Morrissey's vocals, dance moves, and stage presence, often removing his shirt and interacting with fans rushing the stage. The band has received praise from Smiths members Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke.
